So I ahve been on a few opening day hunts, but I would have to say this one is right up on top. Jeremy and I decided to bring our Duck hunting gear to Fish Lake for the morning of the opener. That night it was freezing and snowy. As we woke up early the next morning it was blue skies, but freezing cold and windy. (perfect for ducks to be moving) As we approached the pond we were going to hunt we saw that it was froze except for the very top corner. We placed the decoys and waited under a pine tree. With-in mintutes we had a flock of Mallards coming right at us. Locked wings and perfect. We knocked down two and then as the morning progressed we had a constant flow of ducks coming into our little open water spot. We ended up with 5 Mallards and a jammed gun which made it hard for Jeremy to shot. It was awesome to be in the right spot right where the big ducks wanted to land.

That night all of the camping spots were taken so we found our own private side stream and spent the night. Every thing about the spot was perfect. The fish were rising to Caddis that evening and there was a great bend just down stream that produced some nice fish. The only problem was the place was haunted with crazy animals. That tried to kill us. Here's the story, after we had a tasty dinner of Texas Tacos, Liz decided to call it a night. But Jordan and I hung out by the camp talking about missions and life. Out of no where we heard some crashing through the bushes and next thing we knew it we had a stampede of Moose trying to run through our camp. First was the baby which was still big. We jumped to our feet and Jordan yelled at it like it was a cow. Then shortly after it's mother followed and almost ran over Liz sleeping in the tent. We were both scared to death and wondered why they would be running at us like that. After some rock tosses to make sure they were gone. I told Jordan I was ready for bed and went in the tent with Liz, while Jordan was left sleeping outside with all the crazy animals. The next morning he said it was by far one of the scariest nights he has ever had.

The highlight of the day was when Jordan won our competition and caught a 23 inch Cutt on a size 22 gray soft hackle. It was sweet!
Another crazy thing was seeing Ziedee and his white honey being very open in their love life as we pasted by their beached boat. "Hey guys, those guys are naked!" "Jordan your wrong, Liz look at the camp number in the binoculars" "They are naked!" "Liz quit looking in the binoculars" It was pretty dang funny.
The rest of the trip was full of fish rising to Hoppers and just good old conversation. This trip opened my eyes to the world of float camp trip. Now I will constantly wish I was floating the SF in pursuit of rising trout and campfire stories. This trip we caught hundreds of fish all on dry flies.
